MOUTHWASH DRINKING CHOIRBOY #3 Received a tour demo CD-R from Punching Judy in the mail 45 minutes ago. I'm playing this disc right now, as I write this blurb. In about 12 minutes the repeat button will be pressed and the volume knob turned up several notches higher. Punching Judy's melodic streetpunk carbonations are refreshing.
Punching Judy - 2001 Tour Demo - CD This band reminds me of the punk pop of the early '90s. The kind of music that started me on my way to zine punkdom. The music is fast and catchy and the lyrics scream angst. The song "'Burbs" is reminiscent of the tune "Kids" by the early '90s Dayton Band Liquid Draino It also brought to mind the movie "Surburbia" in which a very young Flea played a punk with a pet rat. However, Punching Judy show that they do have a soft side, which can clearly be heard on the tune "Daughter/Beer". When they sing "Last night I banged your daughter and then I drank your beer", it took me back to the simpler days before punk went corporate. Back to the days when all one cared about was sex and booze. Thanks. {Mite} |
